Day Camp: A Great Choice for Kids

May 9, 2018 at 4:00 PM / by Gabby Fisher

When people think of summer camp, they often think of sleeping overnight in an outdoorsy setting. While that might be the first thing that comes to mind, it isn't the only kind of summer camp for kids. Day camps are widely popular in the United States today. In this post, we are going to talk about why and how attending a day camp can benefit your child.

What is day camp exactly?2910495143_c3ec8042c9_z

Day camp, by definition, is a summer camp that offers no sleeping accommodations and, therefore, children return home each night after the day's activities are complete. Typically, they run six to eight hours in length, but some offer longer hours depending on the program's facilities and staffing. Camps can offer many of the same activities and experiences as traditional sleep away summer camps, but can usually operate on a much smaller budget because of not having to provide and maintain bathing and sleeping quarters for campers.

What are the benefits?

These types of camps can be benefit kids in a big way. There is no doubt that when kids aren't in school, their brains can get a bit lazy or forgetful, shall we say. However, enrolling your child in a day camp program can help to keep their brains active and learning while still getting a break from the heavy structure of a normal school day. Furthermore, this type of program can provide physical activity as well as providing and teaching new skills to children in the program.

For example, week one might be the study of North American animals while week two might be learning all about how small machines work. This type of camp program is great for children to build bonds with other students and also really connect with their group's teacher. However, if you choose several different camps for your child to attend throughout the summer, you and your child can really hone in on the skills you want him or her to learn.
