I love music.

It is truly the one thing that can melt away stress and make me a more pleasant person almost instantly. While I would've loved to make a career out of singing, that was never really an option for me so instead I dove into being an educator and mama. Because music is a constant in our lives, it didn't take long before my children took an interest as well. My oldest is undoubtedly a musically inclined child too. She has a great set of pipes and does pretty well with the piano too. My younger daughter also sings beautifully and will hopefully begin taking guitar lessons in the near future. Both of our boys also love to sing, but it is yet to be determined if that's the beginning or end of their talent. To me, music is a huge part of life.

For much of the United States, January 2nd is when life resumes business as usual. It's a brand new year and even though 2018 began yesterday, it seems to me that today is when it really begins. School schedules begin ramping up again. Work schedules have or soon will return to normal. Over the past few days, you may have been thinking about your new year's resolutions. Maybe you want to lose a few pounds, start pursuing a dream you've had, or something else. If you're a parent though, have you thought about explaining resolutions to your children? Better yet, have you made resolutions to benefit your children? I hope this blog is useful in helping you do both!

Move Over Thanksgiving! Christmas is coming!

I don't know about you, but I LOVE shopping on Black Friday! For me and my sisters, it is a tradition that always proves to be a great time. We literally leave at midnight and get to our favorite shops around 1am. (Did I mention we live in the country?) Lines? Nope. Just pure no-kids shopping, super deals, and no headaches (until at least 5am). We eat breakfast two times in the middle of the night and then grab lunch before arriving home just in time to lay down for a nap with our littles. The awesome thing is that with a good plan in hand, I can usually knock out my entire Christmas list in one clean sweep. However, since my money tree isn't producing as well as I'd like, I have to pay close attention to what I am buying and how much I spend.  Read on to find out how I shop for my four favorite little people.

I get things done, and if you are like me, you make a million to-do lists on every color Post-it and then feel immense joy in crossing just one item off of said to-do list. Praise and Encouragement

I recently read an article by Kids Matter about the value of praising our children and how it affects their development early in life. Even though I have a degree in early education that says I know my stuff, I somehow have forgotten about the power of praise with my own children. It wasn't so apparent until recently when we brought home our fourth child (read: final child) through international a doption. Friends, allow me to tell you a little known secret about adopting an older child from a third world country. It is really stinkin' hard. I'm not talking crying over spilled milk hard. I don't mean bad day at work hard. I'm talking about wondering if you made a huge mistake, kicking and screaming, ugly, begging God to make the fits stop hard.
