When parents begin the search for sports activities for their children, one of the biggest questions we have is, “Will my child be safe?” We parents are not only concerned about the possible injuries that could be sustained on the sports field though. We, also, fear emotional and sexual abuse at the hands of coaches, trainers, or sports physicians. Especially in light of the recent conviction of Dr. Larry Nassar, who committed horrific abuses as a USA Gymnastics doctor, parents are searching for extra assurances that their child safety will be kept in mind while enjoying extracurricular activities.

Move Over Thanksgiving! Christmas is coming!

I don't know about you, but I LOVE shopping on Black Friday! For me and my sisters, it is a tradition that always proves to be a great time. We literally leave at midnight and get to our favorite shops around 1am. (Did I mention we live in the country?) Lines? Nope. Just pure no-kids shopping, super deals, and no headaches (until at least 5am). We eat breakfast two times in the middle of the night and then grab lunch before arriving home just in time to lay down for a nap with our littles. The awesome thing is that with a good plan in hand, I can usually knock out my entire Christmas list in one clean sweep. However, since my money tree isn't producing as well as I'd like, I have to pay close attention to what I am buying and how much I spend.  Read on to find out how I shop for my four favorite little people.

Praise and Encouragement

I recently read an article by Kids Matter about the value of praising our children and how it affects their development early in life. Even though I have a degree in early education that says I know my stuff, I somehow have forgotten about the power of praise with my own children. It wasn't so apparent until recently when we brought home our fourth child (read: final child) through international a doption. Friends, allow me to tell you a little known secret about adopting an older child from a third world country. It is really stinkin' hard. I'm not talking crying over spilled milk hard. I don't mean bad day at work hard. I'm talking about wondering if you made a huge mistake, kicking and screaming, ugly, begging God to make the fits stop hard.

Extracurricular Activities for the Athletic Child

Physical activity is certainly something that is very important for children to have on a regular basis. Soccer, football, baseball, wrestling, karate, tennis, dance, gymnastics, etc. are all great ways to keep your child involved and active.
